One of the more traditional themes for western leather craft, the cow skull couldn't help but make an appearance or three in the Moxie and Oliver line. The original was the Nelly pattern, incorporating simple skulls and wild roses. Next came the Black Eyed Nellie and the Faux Nellie, which combined a love of Mexican art and sugar skulls with the shape of the cow skull. The Black Eyed Nellie maintained the wild roses but stylized them a little more, where the Faux Nellie traded the flowers in for wood rounds.
Nelly and Black Eyed Nellie are both horses in western legend. The name "Faux Nellie" is a combination of the Nellie patterns and "faux bois" meaning "fake wood" which we pronounce similarly to "Whoa Nellie!"
